Japan suffers widest trade gap since 2015

Weak yen, high commodity prices hurt Tokyo's economy

The Land of the Rising Prices

Dear Phan,

Japan released its trade deficit on Thursday. The report measures how much a country's imports exceed its exports. Trade now!

A weak yen combined with high commodity prices caused Japan to record its biggest trade deficit since 2015, widening by 59% year-over-year.

This is bad news for Japan's economy and could be even worse for the yen's value. Will the yen drop even further against the dollar today?
